Fight
I actually left work today while the company shuttle was still running. An amazing miracle given the amount of work I’ve had these past few weeks. On the shuttle, I check the iPhone to see how the buses are running and determine mine course of action. It looks like the 71 and the 6 will be easy to catch. I get off the shuttle, see the 71 and figure no big deal, I’ll just catch the 6 that’s following. I cross the street, wait for the crosswalk signal, expect the 71 to pass in front of my eyes, but it doesn’t! As soon as the crosswalk signal turns, I run for the bus, and what do I see? Three people fighting on the sidewalk/in the doorway of the bus. They’re just yelling at each other “Why you disrespecting me?!” The odd thing was the MUNI driver didn’t just drive away when the guys were fighting on the sidewalk.
Anyways, the 6 pulls up behind the 71 and I think maybe I should just take the N instead. The 6 is electric, so it needs the poles and may/may not be able to get around the 71 which isn’t moving until the police come. I get on the 6 hoping this driver can somehow get around and sure enough! He gets out of the bus, yells at the car behind the bus to switch lanes and get out of the way, gets back on the bus, throws the thing in reverse for about 10 ft, then he proceeds to pass on the left. It was awesome. I love MUNI drivers who improvise. As we passed the 71, I saw a policemen yelling at the bus driver. I couldn’t make out what they were saying, but the voyeuristic side of me really wanted to know.
The rest of the ride home was pretty uneventful except for a few less than desirable people coming on board.
MUNI Adventure Rating: 7*
* I will rate my MUNI adventures on a 1-10 scale. 1 being boring and 10 being the stuff MUNI legends are made of.
